The Department for diploma recognition within the Ministère de l’Éducation nationale et de la Formation professionnelle (Ministry for Education and Vocational Training) grants recognition of foreign diplomas that are equivalent to diplomas delivered by Luxembourg schools.
The department is competent for recognition of secondary school leaving diplomas and vocational training certificates. In the case of an uncompleted cycle of studies, it may also certify the level of education achieved.
It is also responsible for the recognition of professional qualifications in the healthcare and social sector (nursing auxiliary, nurse, physiotherapist, social worker, youth worker …). As for the university and higher education diplomas, the institution in charge of recognition is the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche (ministry for Higher Education and Research).
How to introduce e request for diploma recognition ?
All requests must be introduced in writing at the Ministry for Education and Vocational Training.
Recognition will only be granted on the basis of complete applications including following documents:
- a written demand mentioning the reasons for introducing a request,
- a copy of original diploma / certificates or a copy of original school reports of the last two years,
- a copy of the identity card,
- a resume mentioning the school career,
- a police record (only for youth workers).
The documents listed in the second bullet have to be certified true copies in case they have been issued:
- by a person who is neither a state, nor regional nor a local administrative authority of a European Union member State
- by a person or an authority outside the European Union.
Certified true copies have to be drawn up by bodies entitled to do so (local authorities, embassies, consulates,...).
All the a.m. documents must be written either in French, German or Luxembourgish, the three official languages of Luxembourg or translated into one of these three languages by a sworn translator in Luxembourg (a list of sworn translators is available at the Court of justice – (+352) 47 59 81-1). The stamp of the translator must be affixed partly on the translated text and partly on the document submitted for translation. All documents must be signed by the translator.
